The
Region
There are many activities in the region, horse riding, fishing
circuits, and golf, canoeing, walking, cycling and climbing.
There are some zoos and adventure parks together with fun lakes
for everyone. You will find many historic buildings including
chateaux and cathedrals, monasteries and forts. Landing beaches
and the Loire valley.
La Ferté Macé, approx 1km with a leisure lake
(Base de Loisirs) includes two beaches, a picnic area, fishing
walking, sailing, golf, swimming and pedalos.
We are close the Foret d’Andaines approx 3km, with beautiful
walks and wildlife. Visit Bagnoles de l’ Orne approx 6km,
famous for its health spa also has a fun lake, chateau, cafes,
restaurants and a Casino..
The medieval town of Domfront 25km and an 11th century fortification
offers magnificent views over the countryside, traditional regional
food, and leisure activites- trout fishing circuits, tennis,
climbing to name a few. Lonlay l’Abbaye 30km with various
vestiges of its 11th century Benedictine past, and its biscuit
factory(tours and tasting). Tour the cider museum at Barenton
35km the area is famous for it
Argentan 40km centres on a ruined castle- the site where Henry
11 of England received the news that on New Years Day 1171 his
knights had taken him to his word and murdered Thomas a Becket,
the town itself was comprehensively ruined during General Pattons
bid to close the Falaise pocket. Le Pin au Haras 15km east of
Argentan, is the home of the National Stud(escourted tours.
William the conqueror was born in Falaise 60km and General Pattons
struggle to close the Falaise gap devastated the town.
The Chateau d’O 60km is a beautiful and flamboyant gothic
chateau with gardens and a moat or follow the Route des ~Chateaux,
a circuit 10km SE of Argentan., encompassing three excellent
chateaux, of different era in the forest. See the Grand and
Petit cascades at Mortain 90km. Visit the Ville Enchante at
Belfontaine 95km, and the medieval chateau at the old town of
Fougeres 90km. Don’t forget a visit to Mont St Michel
120km.
The cathedral at Bayeux is very grand inside and out and has
many fine paintings and statues, combine it with a visit to
the Tapestry which should not be missed. Don’t miss the
D Day landing beaches which took place the east coast of Normandy,
the seaside towns of Deauville, Honfleur and Trouville are so
pretty and well worth a visit with many good seafood restaurants
too.
Paris and Disneyland 3 hrs away by car, or if if you would prefer
a driving break we can take you to Briouze which gives a direct
link to Paris and Marne le Vallee . the Loire Valley 2-3hrs
south, fabulous chateau, scenery, a wine route and exploring
so many things to see and do.(all
